About Aman ID

Who we are

Aman ID (Aman: safe, in Indonesian) is a grassroots initiative founded in 2026. Our mission is to be a broad public umbrella for building and supporting Indonesia’s AI safety ecosystem.

Principles

  • Open to the public: the organization should be visible and accessible to a wide range of interested people — including students, practitioners, policymakers, and researchers.
  • Inclusive: conversations about AI safety must involve everyone. Given how far-reaching AI’s impacts are, a healthy movement needs diverse viewpoints, backgrounds, and disciplines. We are explicitly inclusive.
  • Ecosystem building: we primarily act as a connector — convening, coordinating, amplifying, and building coalitions. We do not rule out research or advocacy, and we adapt our scope as the field evolves in Indonesia.

Initial focus (3–6 months)

Given the current state of AI safety in Indonesia, we see two core goals for this phase:

Defining AI safety as a field in Indonesia

We want credible, locally grounded answers to how AI safety should take shape here as a field and movement. The question remains open, and we do not have definitive answers yet. Starting questions include: Who are the main relevant actors? What does Indonesia’s AI risk landscape look like? What mitigations and governance approaches fit?

AI safety capacity building

We believe strengthening global AI safety capacity helps reduce risk; AI safety can also be a meaningful career path for people in Indonesia.
